Five Issues Facing Women Today
1. Caregiving Responsibilities
American women take on their shoulders the responsibilities of holding many jobs within their families and within society, but American women also uphold a status to do housework and care for the children and rest of immediate family, and now women are working outside of their homes. Women with high wages are exhausted by trying to juggle work and family. Women who receive low wages struggle to keep up their duties in trying to maintain numerous roles. The advantage that women who are well off have is they can afford to hire caregivers or nannies to assist them.
2. Affordable Housing
In the last ten years, in Metro Denver, average rents have risen 75% and average wages have risen 47%. Additionally, 44% of Metro Denver's homeless are women. Two-thirds of Metro Denver's homeless families are one-parent families. A woman heads 98% of homeless single parent families. These statistics show that house prices should be lowered making it affordable for all families, especially single-parent families led by women.
3. Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women, and the leading cause of emergency room visits. The most unsafe place for a woman is at home. An estimated 1/3 to 1/2 of women are battered at some point in their lives. Domestic Violence is illegal and requires disciplinary action to those who impose the crime on the victim.
4. Weight
Women in society today, are exposed to millions of ads each and everyday, most ads are represented my models whether seen on television or in newspapers, or magazines. WOmen's sole purpose in life is to find their sole mate and focus on what people see on the outside. With the unhealthy, high cholesterol food we, as humans, are exposed to each and everyday can tempt us into losing determination into maintaining our ideal weight. But even though women overweight have surpassed their ultimate failure in life, they still are frustrated with how they view themselves believing that their chances with finding love are diminished.
5. Substance Abuse
78% of domestic violence victims report alcohol or drug abuse by the assaulter. Up to 60% of sex offenders were drinking at the time of the assault. In 1995, tobacco and drug abuse was estimated at more than $114 billion. Smoking accounted for 70% of the costs. One of the most common reasons for grandmothers raising grandchildren is alcohol and drug abuse by parents.
